Entrepreneurs 2012 is a leading conference that took place between the 12th and 16th of November 2012, at the Excel Center in London. The conference brought different entrepreneurs from all around the world to discuss a range of topics in relation to entrepreneurship and reveal the secrets of how to make it in business.
Whilst the speakers were all from different backgrounds, with some operating in different industries, the conferences really came down to one concept: social media and how to master it effectively to succeed in business. The power of the Internet and what can be achieved by using it effectively was tackled in the presentations of almost every speaker at the event.
Daniel Priestley, Marketing and Adverting coach, for example, says that ?it is a very exciting time to be in small business?, predominantly because of social media and what it offers for business. Internet Marketing Coach Simon Coulson, another very good example of how the Internet can serve business, made millions in revenue from creating and selling eBooks online ? i.e. digital products. In his view, digital products are not only an extremely lucrative field, but the products of the future.
Kate Hardcastle, Media Spokesperson and Commentator?at Insight with Passion, is a very strong advocate of customer service and its core importance to business. She says ?social media allows listening to customers?, which is why it is such an important tool in business today. ?Everything?, she says, ?is about personalization?, and social media helps achieve the latter if used effectively.
Business expert Bill Walsh says that ?you have to get your business mobile?. Not having an online presence for your business is not the issue anymore as the business world is ? or should be ? well-ahead of this stage, but today, it is a matter of having it mobile as well ? on smartphones, tablets and other tools that make it possible to access information on the move. He also adds that ?we live in a world of outsourcing today?, where the Internet makes it so easy to find and use talent globally and thus grow in a way that was never possible beforehand.
Affiliate marketing expert Saj P, who also has made his wealth online, says we need to ?leverage the power of the Internet?. While he mainly focuses on online third party selling strategies, his example really demonstrates how lucrative the Internet can be as a way to channel information, reach more people and increase sales.
Bruce Dickinson, lead vocalist of the band Iron Maiden as well as businessman in the aircraft industry says that ?you have to turn customers into your fans?. For him, business is based on relationships; it is all about ?selling a feeling?. The age of anonymity is coming to an end and customers are looking for more personal relationships, an aspect that social media can provide if used appropriately.
At the essence of each of their discourses, all of these mega-entrepreneurs are saying the exact same thing: how the success of business in this day and age heavily relies on how well you can optimize the power of the Internet. The Internet and social media is where the opportunities for building a successful business lie and this is where entrepreneurial effort needs to be put.
Even Bill Clinton himself, presenting at the conference in a grand finali, supports this argument by claiming that ?the world of the 21st century will rise or fall based on three points: (1) how people relate to each other, (2) how we manage technology and (3) how we manage our relationship to the earth.? Whilst the last point centers on issues around environmentalism, his first two defend the idea that entrepreneurship can really succeed if citizens in between and across countries are able to connect and form relationships between each other, and if technology is constantly leveraged to move forward
