Connecting for global impact
Why Attend?
Put simply because cancer affects us all. It is the leading cause of mortality worldwide, accounting for 7.6 million deaths (around 13% of all deaths) in 2008, and the impact of the disease continues to rise. By 2030, there are expected to be over 21 million new cases of cancer worldwide, with nearly two thirds of all diagnoses occurring in low- and middle-income countries. Deaths from the disease are projected to reach over 13 million.
With the stark realities of the human suffering and economic impact of these projections in mind, 2012 World Cancer Congress will Connect for Global Impact to focus the international community's attention on the growing burden of cancer, and encourage governments and healthcare institutions to work together to help save millions of lives by developing core cancer control strategies.
Meet and mix with the leading international experts to:
- Discover innovative new control strategies in the global fight against cancer
- Explore prevention and early detection of cancer including a detailed look at leveraging tobacco control, the greatest risk factor for cancer
- Learn more about the fight against cancer, including advances in, and fresh perspectives on, cancer care and treatment
- Discuss the translation of knowledge gained through research to those living with and affected by cancer
Plenary sessions include talks by:
- Former Nobel Prize winner, Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn
- Director General, King Hussein Cancer Foundation, HRH Princess Dina Mired
- Director Emeritus of the PanAmerican Health Organization, Sir George Alleyne
- American Cancer Society CEO, Dr. John Seffrin
When and Where?
The World Cancer Congress will take place from August 27-30, 2012 at the Palais des Congrs Montral, Canada.
