ENO ? Mini Operas film making competition

Mini Operas is a groundbreaking and innovative worldwide search for new talent seeking to reinvent opera for future generations. We are on the hunt for exciting scriptwriters, composers and film makers, furthering ENO?s commitment to revolutionise opera, attract new audiences and break new ground.

We concluded the scriptwriting round in May ? and were astounded by hundreds entries from around the globe. Last week we finished the composing round and announced our winners, who come from the UK, USA, Georgia, Russia, Sweden and the Netherlands.

Now, the stage is set for the film round. Here?s what we want you to do: Listen to the 10 soundtracks and pick the one that interests you most. And be sure to read the scripts they?re based on as well. Then download the soundtrack you choose and use it to make a film of around 5-7 minutes. When it comes to inspiration, anything goes: your film can be animated or live action, abstract or literal ? whatever you think best brings the words and music to life. In October Terry Gilliam will pick our 10 winning films.

At the end of the Mini Operas competition we?ll choose three lucky people to participate in a new mentoring scheme with Jeremy Sams, Nico Muhly or Leo Warner. They will receive the life-changing opportunity of spending creative time with their mentor working on whatever they choose.

But for now, just get filming. You?ve got until 24 September to make your film and enter it into the competition at www.minioperas.org. There you?ll also find some example films that our friends over at the London Film School have made to show you some of the possibilities. But remember that you can do whatever you like ? we?re looking for visual storytelling talent. The rest is up to you.

And one more thing: please help us spread the Mini Operas word! We want as many entries as possible, but we can?t do it without your help. Share our website with friends, colleagues and family. Better still, sign up to our Facebook (www.facebook.com/minioperas) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/minioperas) feeds where you can comment and ask any burgeoning questions. In return, we?ll do our best to answer any queries and keep you updated on a daily basis.

So, what are you waiting for? Help us redefine opera on a global scale!
